MyMotherSvea

I thought I’d tell you a little about the name Mothersvea and where this nickname comes from.

The meaning behind the name:
While my swedish readers have probably already figured out the meaning of the name but for those who doesn’t speak swedish Mothersvea is a national emblem of Sweden. Normally depicted as a powerful shieldmaiden with one or two lions, her name, Svea, is a Swedish female name which derives from svea an old plural genitive form meaning “of the Swedes” as in Svea rike meaning “kingdom of the Swedes”, an older form of Sverige, the Swedish name for Sweden.

Why the nickname:
“My Mother Svea” or “Mothersvea” was originally created to be a “media collective” by 11 classmates at Orebro University where we all studied Digital Media Design. It was created for a future purpose where we would all work with digital media design under the name of  “My Mother Svea”. We had all different skills and backgrounds so we worked very well together.
Since the name was symbolic for taking small pieces and creating something great, we (the swedes) all working together at the same agency (Country of Sweden) we found It perfect for what we had in mind. Our agency would be like a small country in a symbolic meaning.
The thought was also that in the future we could continue to build on this family name with names like “My father Gustav” or “My uncle Sam” for other categories.
Obviously this never happend because we all had different goals and some of us went abroad. We still have our portfolios at mothersvea.se (you can find the others that are still in on Mothersvea on the blogroll) and since I have always liked the name and have continued to use it.

So there it is, the story behind the name!
